Podoplanin is a 40 kDa, transmembrane, oncofetal, O linked sialoglycoprotein (mucin type) found on lymphatic endothelium, mesothelium and fetal testis, , but not in microvascular endothelial cells. Podoplanin is selectively expressed in normal and malignant lymphatic endothelium, including Kaposi's sarcomas. Podoplanin has also been shown to be expressed in epithelioid mesotheliomas and seminomas.

IF shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human gastric cancer. Anti-Podoplanin (D2-40) Recombinant Rabbit mAb (Alexa Fluor® 488 Conjugate) antibody was used at 1/100 dilution (Green) and incubated overnight at 4°C. Counterstained with DAPI (Blue). Heat mediated antigen retrieval with EDTA buffer pH9.0 was performed before commencing with IF staining protocol.
