  • Rat IL-13 is a 12.3 kDa, non-glycosylated monomeric cytokine consisting of 113 amino acids (Uniprot ID: P42203) with a bundled four α-helix configuration stabilized by two internal disulfide bonds. The mature protein shares 75% amino acid sequence identity with mouse IL-13, 59% with human, and 60% with rhesus monkey orthologs, reflecting strong functional conservation across species.
    IL-13 is primarily secreted by T helper type 2 (Th2) cells but is also produced by various immune and non-immune cell types including mast cells, eosinophils, basophils, NK cells, and epithelial cell. In rats, IL-13 expression is dynamically regulated during immune challenges, with elevated levels detected in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) cells following allergen stimulation.
