Beta-defensin 5 exhibits potent antimicrobial activity against a wide range of pathogens, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses, by disrupting their cell membranes. In addition to its direct antimicrobial effects, beta-defensin 5 also plays a role in modulating immune responses, promoting wound healing, and maintaining the balance of the gut microbiota.
