Dog immunoglobulin G (IgG) is the predominant and most versatile antibody class in canine serum, serving as the cornerstone of the humoral adaptive immune response in dogs (Canis lupus familiaris). It provides long-term protection by neutralizing pathogens, enhancing phagocytosis through opsonization, and activating the complement system. Structurally typical of mammalian IgG, it comprises several functionally distinct subclasses—commonly identified as IgG-A, IgG-B, IgG-C, and IgG-D—each specialized for different immune challenges, such as bacterial infections, parasitic responses, or allergies. A key biochemical feature is the strong affinity of certain subclasses (particularly those analogous to human IgG1) for Protein A and Protein G, which facilitates its use in research and diagnostics. Given the dog's dual role as a cherished companion animal and a premier translational model for human diseases (including cancer, autoimmune disorders, and immunology), dog IgG holds immense importance.
