背景介绍

  • Interleukin-18 (IL-18), a proinflammatory cytokine primarily produced by macrophages, plays a complex role in immune regulation by potently inducing IFN-γ production and, in synergy with IL-12, shifting B-cell responses away from IgE. Its activity is activated by caspase-1 and inhibited by IL-18 binding protein. Paradoxically, IL-18 can also promote IgE production in certain contexts, highlighting its dual function in allergic diseases, while in rheumatoid arthritis, it synergizes with IL-12 and IL-15 to sustain pathogenic Th1 responses and monokine production, underscoring its significance as a therapeutic target.
