IL-33 is a dual-function cytokine of the IL-1 family that, after release from damaged or necrotic endothelial, epithelial and fibroblast-like cells, binds its receptor ST2 to drive type-2 immunity by activating NF-κB and MAPK pathways in target cells, thereby promoting the production of IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13, orchestrating allergic inflammation, tissue repair and fibrosis, and serving as a nuclear alarmin that can also translocate to the nucleus to regulate gene expression.

IHC shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human lung. Anti- IL-33 antibody was used at 1/1000 dilution, followed by a HRP Polymer for Mouse & Rabbit IgG (ready to use). Counterstained with hematoxylin. Heat mediated antigen retrieval with Tris/EDTA buffer pH9.0 was performed before commencing with IHC staining protocol.
