BRN3A (POU4F1) is a POU-domain transcription factor that governs neuronal subtype specification and survival during development by activating pro-differentiation genes such as Runx1/3 and repressing early neurogenic factors, while in the adult it also drives cervical and myeloid oncogenesis by binding promoters of proliferation- and immune-evasion genes like IFITM1, ISG15 and BCL2L1, and its expression is boosted by the AML1/ETO fusion in t(8;21) leukaemia.

Counterstained with hematoxylin. Heat mediated antigen retrieval with Tris/EDTA buffer pH9.0 was performed before commencing with IHC staining protocol.
