ZNF296 is a C2H2-type zinc-finger transcription factor of 347–445 amino acids that localizes to the nucleus, binds specific double-stranded DNA sequences, and serves pleiotropic roles in embryonic stem-cell pluripotency, spermatogenesis, and cardiovascular morphogenesis by orchestrating chromatin accessibility and alternative splicing of genes such as mef2ca, sparc and tnnt3b, while its dysregulation has been linked to breast cancer, latent tuberculosis, doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity and acute myeloid leukaemia, making it an emerging disease biomarker.
