FXR1 (Fragile X-related protein 1) is an evolutionarily conserved RNA-binding protein that contains three KH domains and an RGG box, enabling it to recognize and regulate the stability, splicing, subcellular transport and translation of a wide spectrum of mRNAs and miRNAs; it shuttles between nucleus and cytoplasm, acts as a cytoplasmic m⁶A reader, forms functional amyloid aggregates in neurons, controls muscle and vascular smooth-muscle cytoskeleton organization, blood pressure and inflammatory transcript decay, and is indispensable for early embryogenesis, placental trophoblast migration, neuronal miRNA processing and long-term memory, while its over-expression or amplification is linked to poor prognosis in multiple cancers.
