背景介绍
  • Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Protein 2 (IGFBP2) has emerged as a critical biomarker in clinical diagnostics, serving as a vital indicator for a wide spectrum of pathological conditions. Its significance lies in its ability to reflect disease severity, progression, and metabolic status across oncology, neurology, and endocrinology. In the realm of oncology, IGFBP2 is frequently overexpressed in aggressive malignancies, including glioblastoma, ovarian, breast, and prostate cancers. Elevated serum or tissue levels are strongly correlated with increased tumor cell proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis. Consequently, detecting IGFBP2 concentrations aids in prognostic stratification, where high levels often predict poorer outcomes and advanced disease stages. Neurologically, IGFBP2 is the most abundant IGF binding protein in the cerebrospinal fluid. Aberrant levels in plasma or CSF are associated with neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, often correlating with tau pathology and brain atrophy. Furthermore, recent spatial transcriptomics research highlights its role in spinal cord injury, where it marks reactive astrocytes involved in neural repair, offering a novel target for diagnostic imaging and therapeutic monitoring. Metabolically, IGFBP2 exhibits an inverse relationship with obesity and insulin resistance. Low circulating levels are characteristic of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, serving as a potential early warning indicator for metabolic dysfunction. Thus, IGFBP2 detection provides a multifaceted tool for comprehensive disease assessment.
