Microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2) is a neuronal protein that plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of the nervous system. It is primarily found in the dendrites and cell bodies of neurons, where it helps to stabilize and organize microtubules, which are essential components of the cytoskeleton. This stabilization is vital for maintaining the structural integrity of neurons and facilitating the transport of various molecules and organelles within the cell. MAP2 is also involved in synaptic plasticity, the ability of synapses to strengthen or weaken over time, which is a key process in learning and memory. Additionally, it has been implicated in various neurodegenerative diseases, as alterations in MAP2 levels or function can lead to neuronal dysfunction and cell death. Its expression is often used as a marker for neuronal differentiation and maturation in research settings.

IHC shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human cerebral cortex. Anti-MAP2 antibody was used at 1/1000 dilution, followed by a HRP Polymer for Mouse & Rabbit IgG (ready to use). Counterstained with hematoxylin. Heat mediated antigen retrieval with Tris/EDTA buffer pH9.0 was performed before commencing with IHC staining protocol.
