VEGF Receptor 2 (VEGFR2), also known as kinase insert domain receptor (KDR) in humans, is a crucial tyrosine kinase receptor involved in angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels. It plays a significant role in various physiological and pathological processes, including development, wound healing, and tumor growth. VEGFR2 is activated upon binding to VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor), leading to a series of downstream signaling events that promote endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and survival. This receptor is composed of an extracellular ligand-binding domain, a transmembrane domain, and an intracellular tyrosine kinase domain. Upon VEGF binding, VEGFR2 undergoes dimerization and autophosphorylation, which activates various signaling pathways such as PI3K/Akt, MAPK/ERK, and others.
