Catalase is a vital enzyme that catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into water and oxygen, thereby preventing the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can cause cellular damage. In mammals, catalase is predominantly found in the liver but is also present in other tissues and organs such as the kidneys and red blood cells. It is particularly important in cells that are exposed to high levels of oxygen, such as those in the heart and lungs, where it helps to maintain cellular health by neutralizing harmful byproducts of metabolism.

Counterstained with hematoxylin. Heat mediated antigen retrieval with Tris/EDTA buffer pH9.0 was performed before commencing with IHC staining protocol.
