TIMD-4, also known as TIM-4, is a member of the T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain (TIM) family, which plays a crucial role in immune regulation. Expressed primarily on antigen-presenting cells (APCs), such as macrophages and dendritic cells, TIMD-4 binds to phosphatidylserine (PS) on apoptotic cells, mediating their phagocytic clearance and maintaining immune tolerance. It also interacts with TIM-1 on T cells, influencing T-cell activation and cytokine production. TIMD-4 is implicated in autoimmune diseases, allergies, and infections due to its role in modulating immune responses.
