  • MTBR-Tau243 is a segment of the tau protein located within its microtubule-binding region (MTBR), specifically spanning the tau microtubule-binding region containing residue 243. This protein fragment has garnered significant attention as a specific biomarker for tau tangle pathology in Alzheimer's disease. Research has shown that MTBR-Tau243 levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma are closely correlated with the presence and progression of neurofibrillary tangles, which are a hallmark of Alzheimer's. Unlike other tau biomarkers such as phosphorylated tau species, which are more related to amyloid plaques, MTBR-Tau243 is strongly associated with tau aggregates and cognitive impairment. Its detection in body fluids can help distinguish Alzheimer's disease from other neurodegenerative disorders and may serve as a valuable tool for monitoring disease progression and evaluating the efficacy of tau-targeted therapies.
